Dan Thompson wasn’t lost. I was just fuzzy on where to find him. He found me a couple weeks ago and now I’ve added him to the blogroll. See any family resemblance?
Also.
Josh and Jesse Hunter have been living in Jamaica since last June and working with the Peace Corps. or May? I have left up their individual blogs until… now! Their PC blog is now in the blogroll and the individual blogs can be accessed secondarily from there.
Blogroll.

Formerly thought of as a man’s pastime, blogging is now a co-ed sport.
“Can’t be!”, you say? Well, its true.
I have seen women smoking, too, if you can believe it. With my own eyes!- but the picture wouldn’t link properly. This interweb will be the death of the our gender codes.
Please welcome two women to the blogroll who (to my knowledge) do not smoke. Bea and my wife, Cara.

It’s coming along. I mean, it was slow going until i met google. Google tools are helping me realise some wonderful possibilites in terms of organisation and location. Previously, i have used a paper bag to store my endless piles of idea-filled post-it notes, now i am just uploading everything to google and working it out there- sort of my paper bag in the sky, with a search tool in the bag. Nice.
Anyway, the project is mostly for my own benefit, since i imagine anyone who’s interested in this kind of thing actually knows this stuff already. i am creating a timeline of the protestant church in a rather huge spreasheet so i can look at the development of various denoms and movements and streams side-by-side for analysis… ’cause that’s what i do, kids- i analyse stuff.
Eventually, i can see these profound revelations making their way into a running commentary of some sort- maybe an 8 volume Denominational Handbook or something… for the time-being, its just about protestantismism.
Ism.
I’ll be putting a linkism to it (in the blogroll, probably) so you can view it while i’m developing it and laugh at my ignoranschism. I’m learning quite a lot just by reviewing the early 16th century. Gosh, i had no idea about this stuff, its really lovely; and I’m learning a bit about where i’m coming from theologically, to boot.

The Chumby entered my brain as a harmless idea and grew into a huge discussion regarding pirates, technology and cultural integration- savvy? I am not. It threw me into a bottomless pit of word-traps and all my critical thinking faculties flew out the window. I wanted to care about the Chumby, but can’t bring myself to it. I guess i will never matriculate the technation.
In other words, i’ve been doing things other than blogging the last few days. For instance, i picked up “Made to Stick” by the Brothers Heath (these are not the Brothers Brick or Grimm) upon the indirect (to me, anyway) recommendation of Matt. So far, this is an unbelievable book and should be in the hands (rather than on the shelf) of anyone who deigns to call themselves a communicator. Parantheses aside, it is a must-read and will likely grace my Cloning List one day.
I was going to pick up the (new?) one from Mark Scandrette, but Borders didn’t have it in the store. (do i want to order it? i could get a better price from amazon- i came here to spend more money for the joy and convenience of pulling it off the shelf all on my own. so no- i don’t want to order it. i want to pluck it when it’s ripe.) The book is Soul Graffiti and my only worry is that it’s going to be another Blue Like Jazz or New Monasticism (these books are fine, whatever) but the twist would be that it’s based in San Fran. That would be lame. I read a little this evening in another, better bookstore (B&N) and i think it’s worth a read- it certainly got me thinking seriously about the issues he raises… rather than just the misty-eyed idealism i usually wolf down.

Updated the blogroll a wee bit. Some new additions like Jesse and Bear are up now- sorry it took so long, Jesse! Both of these blogs are hosted by Blogspot. Coincidence? Hardly.
Uh, there was something else…
i forgot.

I’m going as Jesus as He would appear as an Irish-American in 21st Century USA.
Not really. I just like the pompous sound of that.
Today is New Year’s Eve… sort of. Tomorrow is the first day of Samhain and the first day of the Celtic Calendar and like many things Celtic, it is both pagan and xian. See How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill for the explanation on that one.
Tomorrow is also All Saints Day. Has a more west church feel to it and seems to cover alot of different things (all the saints everywhere, ever, for one.) but also the day which martyrs of the xian faith are remembered collectively.
Andrew Jones has determined he is going to go thru the entire celtic calendar this year; starting tomorrow you can track with him on Our Daily Blog, which I’ve added to the blogroll for the year.
I’ve considered Nov. 1st my new years day for a long time- it’s my birthday and always seems like a more appropriate time for reflection and forward thinking than the craziness of the time between xmas and Jan. 1st. The fact that all these other things are associated with Nov. 1st is still pretty new knowledge for me and I’m still sorting out the info that’s available. I think, by tracking with Andrew thru the celtic calendar, I’ll get a better handle on what it all is.
Anyway, a fine Samhain and slainte to you.
